On which platforms is Stride Academy compatible?

Stride Academy works on PCs, Macs and many popular tablet devices, including iPad.
See the latest report on Stride Certified devices.

Thanks to HTML5 technology, Stride Academy is compatible with more devices than ever, including many high performance tablets. iPad provides the most reliable tablet performace to date and we are hard at work to certify other devices.

Are you a Windows XP user?
We provide "transitional support" for XP running the latest version of Chrome or Firefox, with the caveat that the underlying OS is EOL and subject to significant security vulnerabilities if not supervised by a network administrator with adequate control of rights management. We strongly recommend upgrading to a supported OS for your safety and security. However, we will continue to provide ongoing support for schools who continue to use XP as the underlying OS while running a Stride compatible version of Chrome or Firefox browser.

Chrome support for XP ends in April 2015. Users may be required to use an older version of Chrome on XP after this time that may also be subject to security vulnerabilities. Firefox should continue to provide stable support for XP after this time if an outdated version of Chrome is not preferable.

Running Windows Vista or greater?
Microsoft limits Internet Explorer compatibility to IE 8, which is an outdated non-HTML5 compatible browser that is not Stride Certified. If you prefer or are required by your organization to use Internet Explorer, be sure you have the latest version available.

Are you an iPad 2 user?
All users operating an iPad 2 are recommended to update to the most current iOS. Issues have been identified when operating on iPad 2 including auto-play of voiceover, audio on Lunch Bug game, and video and audio play-back. Localized errors from students using iPad with iOS 8 can often be solved by toggling Wi-Fi on and off. Double tapping the home button brings up all open apps / windows. All apps can be closed from here and another attempt can be made. If that does not fix local problems, the user can restart the iPad.

Bandwidth Requirements:

A "broadband" connection is required.
Stride Academy will dynamically modulate buffering (pre-loading) in a variety of bandwidth scenarios for best performance. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) defines "Basic Broadband" as data transmission speeds of at least 4 Mbit/s downstream (from the Internet to the user’s computer) and 1 Mbit/s upstream (from the user’s computer to the Internet).

Stride Academy uses the best-in-industry network delivery technology from Limelight, with over 7gbps of egress capacity to ensure that our digital assets are always lightning fast.

Note: Please update all iPad 2 and newer running iOS 8 to version 8.1.1. Do not update past this version at this time. We will confirm that new versions of iOS don't break compatibility before certifying them here.
